Alexander Shchetynsky

In Private
for piano
(1994)

The work consists of many small fragments that represent in turn movement and static. Sustained chords and separated tones make to listen attentively to various sound spectra. Passages of quite simple rhythmic structure are rendered each time in different tempo. In this way the balance between regularity and non-regularity is achieved. There is no dynamic climax, and the development goes on as if not chronologically but in continuous mixing of different stages of transformation. Musical structures are based on several intervallic combinations that, being atonal, unite the whole on the level of microthematism.

The piece is rather meditative and does not contain features of superficial effectiveness. It resembles inner monologue applied to himself. This has caused the title of the work.
