As it is supposed in the looking-glass world, the logic is a little strange here and "events" are moving as if we watch them in a dream.
Nevertheless, there is a quite strict, inherent "justification" of the piece which is revealed in its construction. 12-tone scale is extended by quarter-tone deviations from basic tones, quite similar to chromatic alterations in traditional tonal system. The series was derived from an overtone row which appears for the first time only at the very end of the piece. The rhythm looks like a decoded rubato, different in each voice. This leads to a flexible "polyphony" of tempo deviations from a common tempo. In contrast to this "polyphony", several voices are sometimes united into rhythmic unisons, and their importance increases as the piece comes to its end. All sections of the work are in correlation to each other according to a golden division, the main points are marked by the entry of a glockenspiel.
